🔋 New Position Added: First Solar $FSLR
Yesterday I initiated a position in First Solar.
While much of the market remains focused on AI infrastructure, software, and data center beneficiaries, I'm also looking for opportunities where long-term secular demand appears stronger than current investor sentiment.
My investment thesis for First Solar is built around several key pillars:
✅ Made-in-America Advantage
Unlike many solar companies that depend heavily on overseas manufacturing, First Solar has built a significant U.S.-based manufacturing footprint. This positions the company to benefit from domestic energy policies, incentives, and a growing desire for supply chain security.
✅ Utility-Scale Focus
First Solar is not competing primarily in the crowded residential solar market. Its focus is utility-scale projects, where demand is driven by large power generation needs rather than individual consumer spending.
✅ Massive Electricity Demand Growth
Data centers, AI infrastructure, electrification, and industrial reshoring are increasing electricity demand across the United States. Meeting that demand will likely require an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy, and solar remains one of the fastest and cheapest sources of new power generation.
✅ Strong Balance Sheet
One of the reasons I prefer First Solar over many renewable energy peers is financial strength. The company has historically maintained a strong balance sheet and operates from a position of relative stability rather than dependence on constant external financing.
✅ Valuation Reset
Despite favorable long-term industry fundamentals, sentiment toward solar stocks has remained weak. That disconnect between near-term concerns and long-term opportunities is often where attractive investments can be found.
⚠️ Risks remain. Interest rates, policy changes, project delays, and pricing pressure can all impact results. This is not a "quick win" trade for me, but rather a long-term investment based on the belief that electricity demand growth and domestic energy production will become increasingly important over the coming decade.
Bottom line: I see First Solar as a high-quality way to gain exposure to the energy transition, growing power demand, and U.S. manufacturing trends, while buying at a point where expectations remain relatively subdued.
📈 Now a new addition to my portfolio. Time will tell whether the market eventually recognizes the value I see today.
